Enchanting ideas for short trips with children – nature, culture and history cleverly combined with adventure and excitement

Did you know that in the forest, besides natural treasures, there are also treasures that can only be found with a treasure map? Take a look at Thuringia. Adults and children puzzle together on a treasure hunt at Rennsteig. You are interested in a short holiday in Thuringia, but would prefer to get a taste of Christmas flair together with your kids? In the Farbglashuette Lauscha children get to know the cradle of Christmas tree decorations. When the little ones create their own glass marbles, Christmas and Easter almost fall on one day.

Adventures in the approach – for the children and perhaps also for the parents? For sure!

A night in a museum, in a Stone Age village or in a dinosaur park? With mum and dad? All the boys and girls who like to do handicrafts grab grandma and grandpa and spend the night in the Filzmuseum in Soltau. Adventurous safari feeling in the southern heath or relaxed cows cuddling in Bullerbü with Laura – what do you or your kids want now? These and many other great short holiday ideas for children – away from the everyday – for your family can be found here. Let yourself be inspired and don’t be astonished anymore. Apropos Stone Age: perhaps not quite so old, but still a journey into the past is a visit to the open-air museum Glentleiten in Großweil in Upper Bavaria. Impressive (hands-on) events for young and old are definitely worth the trip.

Looking for cowboys, stuntmen and damsels? Pack your suitcases quickly!

How nice would it be to be allowed to be a real child again? At the latest when you visit the western town of Pullman City in the Bavarian Forest, you will ask yourself this question. Welcome to Buffallo Bill! In the Ravensburger Spieleland you dine in historic walls at a knight’s feast. On you and you with film and television are your children at the stunt workshop in the Bavaria Filmstudios – every last Sunday of the month. During a short trip at the Legoland® Discovery Centre in Oberhausen, children are truly amazed by building blocks. Combined with a visit to the SEA LIFE Aquarium, your dwarves will encounter a fascinating underwater world. In Hamburg’s Hagenbeck Tropen Aquarium it is not only cosy and warm, here your kids go on an expedition to strange and hidden habitats of over 14,000 animal inhabitants. Mega cool! What do you think is going to happen when you offer your kids the Chocolate Museum in Cologne or Halle or the Chocoversum in Hamburg? You’ve certainly never packed your suitcase so quickly before.

Summer, sun, party?

Do you dream of a short trip under palm trees and a cocktail in your hand? No problem with your child, uncomplicated and even in the cold season. In the Tropical Islands in Brandenburg, chilly lagoon feeling meets water slide ecstasy. The Bavarian equivalent, the Therme Erding, is regarded as the largest slide paradise in the world and will welcome your children with a variety that has no equal. The idea of extending your holiday after Tropical Island with a visit to Berlin Zoo is also animal-friendly. It is the most species-rich in Germany and the cute meerkats are very curious about your visit. The dinosaurs in the dinosaur park Kleinwelka near Bautzen are just as curious, but not quite as lively. Embark on a journey back in time amidst magnificent green nature. The “Galactic Nebula” with water features, fountains and geysers as well as the climbing jungle leave a lasting impression on the children.
